Specialty Consulting, Inc. (SPC) undertook a critical asbestos survey for ACERO Charter Schools to identify asbestos-containing materials (ACM) that might require removal, special handling, or disposal before planned renovation or demolition activities. This survey aimed to meet the requirements of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP), and the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA).

SPC's responsibilities began with a comprehensive visual assessment to identify and inventory readily visible and accessible homogeneous areas of suspected ACM. These areas are defined by building materials that are uniform in color, texture, and age. Following this, SPC conducted a physical assessment to evaluate the friability and condition of the suspected materials.

A total of four bulk samples were collected from these homogeneous areas for testing. The samples were meticulously handled and analyzed to ensure accuracy. The survey concluded that all samples tested negative for ACM, indicating no presence of asbestos in the assessed areas.

A unique challenge of this project was the necessity to perform thorough and precise assessments within the constraints of limited visibility and accessibility. SPC addressed this through methodical sampling techniques and adherence to stringent regulatory protocols, ensuring the safety and compliance of the renovation or demolition activities at ACERO Charter Schools.
