To ensure an efficient and safe transit system, the CTA routinely undertakes smaller construction projects where safety management is crucial. Specialty Consulting, Inc. (SPC) is a recognized provider of safety consulting services to the CTA, thanks to its specialized knowledge and experience with CTA operating systems.
SPC’s scope of work included reviewing contractors’ safety plans and overseeing site safety for various rail improvements and renovations. SPC safety managers document observed safety conditions and suggest improvements through periodic reports.
SPC oversaw safe work practices for the CTA Lake Line project from Laramie to Harlem for a rail and tie spot replacement project involving the replacement of most rail, ties, and electrical and signal components. As part of the Harrison Street Red Line station renovations, SPC managed safety operations during the complete renovation of this station, which included new floor and wall coverings, energy-efficient lighting, new electrical and communication wiring, and new fare equipment.
SPC supervised safe work operations for the complete installation of rail, tie, electrical, and signal systems for the Ravenswood Loop Track Renewal. This project, performed through weekend shutdowns, covered the track between Armitage and Sedgwick stations, elevated on a steel structure. SPC served as the lead safety officer for the CTA’s Job Order Contracting (JOC) Program, which aims to reduce the documentation and procedures required for individual projects.
