Specialty Consulting, Inc. (SPC) was tasked with addressing structural issues in an existing masonry equipment storage facility for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The building experienced displacement of steel beams and masonry piers, necessitating a thorough assessment and the creation of construction documents to resolve these problems.

SPC conducted field investigations, documented the existing conditions through representative photographs and reviewed previous repair documents. They provided detailed repair recommendations and associated cost estimates. The structural assessment was comprehensive, culminating in a report with actionable recommendations.

For the construction phase, SPC prepared bid and construction documents to address repairs to lintels, piers, and masonry walls. Their responsibilities extended to providing construction administrative services, including bid assistance and construction observation. SPC also assisted in the closeout process, including the final warranty walkthrough.

The unique challenge of this project was accurately assessing and addressing the structural issues while considering previous repairs and the building's current state. SPC's solution involved detailed field investigations, thorough documentation, and careful review of past repairs. This approach ensured that the repair recommendations were well-informed and effective, ultimately providing a reliable solution to the building's structural issues.
