Specialty Consulting, Inc. (SPC) was retained to conduct chemical inventories and oversee the disposal of waste chemicals in Chemistry, Biology, and other science laboratories at Chicago Public Schools (CPS) High Schools. The project focused on identifying and disposing of excess, obsolete, or abandoned chemicals and biological specimens in science laboratories across the district. SPC developed a comprehensive chemical health and safety plan detailing protocols to be followed by personnel during the inventory process.

SPC subcontracted qualified and trained lab pack contractors to classify and pack chemicals, supply DOT-compliant packaging, prepare shipping documents, and handle the transportation and disposal of designated laboratory chemicals. SPC ensured that subcontractor workers met the necessary training and qualification requirements for hazardous chemical management, waste disposal, and spill response procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations.

SPC staff coordinated the subcontractors' removal activities with each school, oversaw the removal process, executed shipping papers on behalf of the Board, reviewed and approved all required Measurement and Payment documentation, and submitted all project documentation and shipping papers to CPS upon project completion.

This project was completed on time and within budget, ensuring the safe usage of science laboratories by students, faculty, and staff.
