Northwestern Memorial Health Care (NMHC) tasked Specialty Consulting, Inc. (SPC) with managing the closure of a 20,000-gallon diesel underground storage tank (UST) at 527 W. South Street, Woodstock, McHenry County, Illinois. SPC handled removal and regulatory reporting and obtained a No Further Remediation (NFR) Letter from the IEPA for a UST system release.

Before UST removal, SPC conducted a Limited Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA). The assessment involved installing four soil borings near the UST, reaching 20 feet below the ground surface using a GeoProbe® sampling unit. Continuous soil samples were collected for analysis.

Following the UST removal, SPC collected nine soil samples for laboratory analysis. The results prompted SPC to report a release from the UST system to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA). SPC submitted a 20-day and 45-day Report to address the release.

Upon completion of investigations and closure activities, SPC determined no remedial actions were necessary. Based on their findings, SPC requested an NFR letter for UST closure in the 45-Day Report. The IEPA issued an NFR for the UST closure.
