The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) entrusted SPC to develop and implement an effective environmental management system across Chicago's O'Hare and Midway International Airports. With their status as one of the world's largest and busiest airport systems, ensuring environmental compliance, risk reduction, and sustainability was crucial.

SPC's responsibilities included providing a full-time Environmental Project Manager and technical support professionals to oversee the program's development and implementation. Their focus primarily centered on leading the program at Midway Airport while offering technical support for initiatives at O'Hare.

Key elements of the program included preparing NEPA documents for various improvements and acquisitions, developing spill control plans and response guides, implementing a Universal Waste Management Program, coordinating emergency spill responses, and assisting in the development of an Environmental Management System (EMS).

Challenges arose in integrating diverse stakeholders, including city departments, airport tenants, contractors, and government agencies, into the management system's delivery. SPC tackled these challenges by fostering effective communication and collaboration among all parties involved, ensuring seamless execution of the program requirements and contributing to the airports' environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance efforts.
