Specialty Consulting, Inc. (SPC) was commissioned by the Capital Development Board (CDB) to provide professional design services for the replacement of roofing systems at Prairie State College. This project encompassed three buildings on the main campus (SSC, HTA, HTB & K) and one off-campus location (MAC) in Chicago Heights, IL. The existing roofing systems had exceeded their warranty periods and required replacement.
SPC was responsible for replacing a total of 87,454 square feet of damaged and deteriorated roofing systems across the four buildings. The project also involved temporarily relocating existing solar panels on one roof to facilitate the installation of the new roofing system and adding a new roof access ladder to the "K" building.
The project began with comprehensive roofing investigations and testing. An elevation survey was conducted to verify existing roof slopes at drains. SPC recommended the complete removal of the existing roofing systems and the installation of new modified bitumen systems with a 20-year warranty for all buildings. This system was chosen for its durability and slip resistance, as requested by Prairie State College.
SPC's thorough approach ensured that the roofing systems were replaced efficiently, addressing both structural integrity and durability.
